V8 Supercar Wrap up!
Wow, what an event. With clouds hovering and opening up on a regular basis there was a real risk that inclement weather would keep the punters at home. What eventuated was a huge display of passionate WA Motorsports fans, an official increase of nearly 10% in spectators from the 2011 event with over 46,000 patrons attending the 2012 Tradingpost Perth Challenge.
Additional value to the spectators of free support paddock entry to GA customers and a new family zone overlooking turn 4, spectator value was at a premium. Feedback received both during and immediately after the event has been spectacular. We can only imagine the scenario if the weather was kinder to us.
New world class infrastructure providing an avalanche of activity for spectators to view between races contributed immensely to the excitement and atmosphere of the event. An immense amount of work was put in to minimise viewing obstacles and to a large degree this was successful. Outside of major events the impact will be even less.
The WASCC has formally put itself on the map, both nationally and internationally with commentary teams praising the facilities and organisational capabilities of the Club. Whist we stop and reflect on what we did well and what we can improve on in the future, our efforts will only increase in order to make Barbagallo Raceway the best in the country.
Finally the Committee would like to extend their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to its members and especially the many volunteers, officials and staff who were the driving force behind the success of the meeting, more on this in the near future. |
