20th December 2011
Dear Members,
For the past 2 years I have stood as the President of the WASCC. During this time I have seen the culmination of a lot of hard work and energy from some very dedicated and hardworking members. The committee is often charged with making difficult decisions while representing all club members and the objectives in our constitution.
I make the following statement unreservedly and on the back of hard facts, documentation and evidence.
“The club is in an unprecedented position of financial strength, solid management and a very strong outlook for the future”.
The club has evolved dramatically over the past few years and put itself in the strongest position it has ever been in. Confidence in the Club by Government Officials and Ministers is at an unprecedented level. We have the strongest level of corporate engagement in our history and we have adopted rigorous governance and compliance standards which will continue to evolve.
I make no qualms, the journey has not always been a smooth one, there have been many challenges and even some small disruptions from within, however I and the chairman have always taken our constitutional and moral responsibilities seriously. We are charged with representing the members and the motorsport public. Our charter has been to continually move the club forward into a position of strength and unity, the decisions the committee has had to make are not always popular but certainly have member’s interests at the forefront of our minds.
The role of a committee member is very important and comes with great responsibility, as does that of the president. Given we have had only one nomination for the role of President I am thrilled that Rob Janney (an existing Committee member) will take the club forward in his capacity as President. Rob is a long term club and committee member. Rob is not aligned to any one group or represents any other club interests. He is thoughtful and professional in his approach. I have complete confidence he will represent the club well on the many necessary occasions.
The club has a deep heritage and commitment to the sport. This is built on solid foundations and aspirations for the future. Our future will be guided by our ability to succeed in adverse situations and build what we have now into a truly world class venue for the benefit of our members and WA motorsports enthusiasts.
All AGM's of the club are important, but this one particularly so because of the decisions to be made about 'rules' changes, the formal appointment of the next President and seven committee members.
Interest in the Committee is at an unprecedented level, 23 nominations have been received for the committee. A fantastic result in the level of interest from the membership, however a broad choice of candidates. Every committee member is constitutionally charged with equally representing all members, racing or not, multiple club members or not, a difficult choice but one which must be made with a clear understanding of what needs to be done. As the leadership group of the club our racing and personal interests take a back seat to the future prosperity of the club and member value.
The Club is currently undergoing a very exciting journey. The opportunity currently facing the club has not just appeared. Many years of consultation and hard work have culminated in a Government grant allocated to the WASCC, this is not a loan and the State Government hold no additional equity in the facility. This is a fantastic result for the WASCC and the Motorsport public of WA.
The General Manager will give a comprehensive report and I as the President completing my term will outline some views on the risks the club faces and the rewards if we get it 'right'.
With respect to the constitution changes proposed, these are all there at the request of members and are recommended by the committee to enhance the clubs governance in these changing and challenging times.
There are some excellent candidates who can bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to the committee. We need to choose carefully as to whom
we want to represent the club in the future and who have the capabilities to take the club to the next level and achieve our goals and aspirations.
Formalities are less than exciting sometimes however getting them ‘right’ provides security and opportunity for the club. It also allows the club to continue to provide cost effective participant motor sport.
From Rick and myself we wish all members a safe and merry festive season and look forward to a great 2012.
Kind Regards
George Bradbury (President)
Rick Gill (Chairman)
